|Glazed ⓘ The coat of enamel or liquid glass that is applied to ceramic and porcelain tiles. Glazed tiles are non-absorbent so do not require sealing.||Yes|
|Requires Sealing ⓘ unglazed tiles will absorb liquid, which will lead to staining. Thus it’s necessary to apply a protective sealant to unglazed tiles.||No|
|Frost proof ⓘ Different types of floor tiles have different water absorption rates. porcelain tiles are engineered to be frost proof in temperatures below zero as they don’t absorb water (non porous).||Yes|
|Rectified edge ⓘ Has been mechanically cut or ground down to an exact size. The edges are usually precisely cut at a square 90-degree angle.||Yes|
|Anti slip ⓘ Slip rating given to determine how slippy a tile is. R9 has a small degree of slip resistance, right up to R13, which is the highest slip resistance.
R9 and R10 values are often used for domestic situations such as bathrooms and kitchens.
|PEI rating ⓘ PEI ratings help you determine the hardness and durability of floor tile.
PEI 3 Light to moderate (normal) traffic.
PEI 4 Moderate to heavy traffic.

Palisandro Azul rectified porcelain tile 30x60cm by Ceramica Rondine (Italy).
An Italian porcelain stoneware tile with an R10 anti-slip rating, rectified edges, frost-proof finish and matt glaze suitable for walls and floors. As a digitally printed stone-effect tile, the Palisandro Azul imitates natural quarried marble characterised by striking layers of blue and grey veins without the inherent variation found in natural products. It is a hard-wearing and durable tile suitable for all domestic and commerical uses. Large porcelain tiles like this can open up a smaller room because of fewer grout lines.
A rectified tile is a tile which has been mechanically cut to an exact size. Both ceramic and porcelain tiles can be rectified but it is typically more common with large porcelain floor tiles. Tiles that are not rectified can have very slight variations in size so rectification produces exact facial dimensions with more precise and narrow grout lines when tiling.
Tiles classified as an anti-slip floor tile are assigned an ‘R’ value which runs along a scale from R9 (not tested but manufactured to a minimum standard) all the way through to R13 (the highest slip resistance). Tiles with an R10 anti-slip rating like the Palisandro Azul are better suited to dry domestic areas such as kitchens.
Frost-proof tiles are an important consideration for rooms where the temperature may drop below zero such as utility rooms and conservatories. Tiles with a frost-proof glaze have a water absorption rate of less than 0.5% meaning they are ideal for such conditions. Tiles which are not frost-proof may absorb water which would freeze at zero and below, causing the tile to crack.
Ceramica Rondine has been producing beautiful porcelain stoneware tiles since 1961. Through several industrial acquisitions of specialist tile manufacturers, Ceramica Rondine has been able to broaden its range and assume complete control over its own production to guarantee absolute quality.
