Our Heritage
Tile.co.uk is part of Brooke Ceramics Ltd, a Hull-based tile specialist with roots going back almost a century.
The story starts in 1926, when Ernest Brooke opened an ironmonger's shop on Hull's Holderness Road. His son Reg grew the business through the postwar years, expanding into DIY and hardware. In 1981, Geof Brookes joined the family business and made the decision to move away from general hardware and focus solely on tiles and bathrooms — a bet that paid off. He founded Brooke Ceramics Ltd in 1988, and opened the Brooke Ceramics tile superstore in Hull in 1993.
In 2019, Brooke Ceramics was acquired by MKM Building Supplies, one of the UK's largest independent builders' merchants, bringing our tile expertise together with MKM's nationwide reach.
Today, that same tile expertise — built up over decades in Hull — is what powers tile.co.uk.
tile.co.uk is run day-to-day by Tina Kemp, our E-commerce Manager. Tina has been part of the Brooke Ceramics and MKM family for 28 years, and has spent the last two and a half years leading tile.co.uk specifically.
Andrew Smith, Showroom & Distribution Lead for Tiles, Kitchens & Bathrooms, brings the same tile expertise to Brooke Ceramics at MKM Home, a sister business within the MKM group.
