We also have eye-catching slate and marble-effect for a more luxurious appearance.

Bathroom Floor Tiles – FAQs

Can you paint bathroom floor tiles?

Yes, bathroom floor tiles can be painted but you’ll need to use specific tile paint that’s moisture-resistant and easy to clean.

To effectively paint bathroom floor tiles, you’ll need to thoroughly sand and prime the surface before applying at least two coats.

It’s a good budget option, but you won’t achieve the same high-quality finish you’d get from original bathroom floor tiles. The paint is likely to crack and flake over time, so you’ll need to apply more layers in the future.

Which tile is best for bathroom floors?

Porcelain tiles are a popular choice for bathroom floors due to their versatility and durability - but you can also use a range of other materials.

Ceramic tiles provide a distinctive aesthetic while natural stone tiles like marble or slate provide a luxurious, high-end finish.

How do you clean bathroom floor tiles?

Ideally, you should clean bathroom floor tiles using warm water mixed with a tile cleaning solution. It’s important to use a solution that’s suitable to your floor tiles, as materials like ceramic can be damaged by harsh chemicals.

Use a soft brush or sponge to apply the mixture and wipe away stains or dirt on the tiles. To clean dirt built up in the grout, you can use an old toothbrush.

You should dry your bathroom floor tiles after cleaning to make sure streaks or water spots aren’t left.

What goes under bathroom floor tiles?

Cement-based materials are an effective underlay for bathroom floor tiles as they’re moisture resistant. You’ll also need a high-quality floor adhesive to keep the tiles securely in place.

What slip rating is needed for bathroom floor tiles?

You’ll generally need to look for a bathroom floor tile with an anti-slip rating of R11-13. This indicates a grippier tile surface which makes slipping harder when wet.

If a tile has a slip rating of R10 or less, the tile is not recommended as an anti-slip tile.

When you’re browsing our tiles, you’ll find a helpful table which shows all the key features of that tile, including the anti-slip rating.

Should you tile under bathroom cabinets?

It is recommended to tile behind and under bathroom units as it will seal the area and make it water resistant.

It also future proofs the room - if the unit requires replacing for a different size unit, the area will be interchangeable and there won’t be any gaps to fill.

Can I install underfloor heating under bathroom floor tiles?

Yes, electrical underfloor heating is suitable for bathroom floors – but not wet zones such as shower floors.

Underfloor heating is installed before the floor tiles are fitted on top with flexible adhesive and grout.

Make sure to use a qualified electrician to install the heating element before tiling.

How many bathroom floor tiles do I need?

The number of bathroom floor tiles you will need depends on the size of the bathroom floor you’re looking to cover.

We have a handy floor area calculator that can help you work out how many bathroom floor tiles you’ll need for your project.
