The step up from BAL Green Star. Use White Star Plus when you're fixing porcelain tiles, working in communal or commercial wet areas, or tiling onto backgrounds subject to movement or vibration. For standard ceramic tiles in domestic bathrooms and kitchens, BAL Green Star is sufficient.

A high-strength, highly flexible, non-slip, water-resistant ready-mixed wall tile adhesive, enhanced with BAL Fibre Strand Technology (FST). Suitable for ceramic tiles up to 300×300mm and porcelain tiles up to 150×150mm, mosaics, and most natural stone. Covers domestic and commercial wet areas including communal showers and commercial kitchens — environments where standard adhesives aren't rated.

How to apply this adhesive Surface prep · setting out · fixing · grouting

Before you start

Prepare the surface — it must be flat (max 3mm deviation over a 2m straight edge), clean, dry, and free from dust or loose material.

New plaster or cement render: allow at least 4 weeks to cure before tiling.

In showers and wet rooms, apply a tanking system (e.g. BAL Tank It) to waterproof the background before tiling.

In wet areas, leave adhesive to dry for a minimum of 3 days before grouting.

Mark a true horizontal datum line one tile height up from your floor or bath edge using a spirit level. Fix a timber batten along this line as a temporary ledge.

Find your vertical centre — measure the wall width and dry-lay a row of tiles from the centre outwards to check cut sizes at both edges. Adjust so cuts are even and at least half a tile wide.

Fixing & finishing

Apply adhesive with a notched trowel — round notched for dry walls, thin bed solid bed for wet walls. Comb in one direction. Work in 1m² sections to avoid skinning.

Max bed depth: 3mm. Open time: >30 minutes at 20°C.

For larger ceramics (up to 300×300mm) or porcelain tiles, also apply a thin layer to the tile back (do not exceed 3mm total).

When fixing porcelain tiles, drying times will be extended — allow extra time before grouting.

Press each tile firmly with a slight twisting action. Occasionally lift a tile to check contact — minimum 50% coverage in dry areas; 100% solid bed (no voids) in wet areas.

Clean surplus adhesive from tile faces and joints immediately with a damp cloth. Leave movement joints at all internal corners and wall junctions.

Grout after 24 hours at 20°C. Delay to 3 days when fixing porcelain, larger ceramics, or tiling onto impervious backgrounds.

Seal bath and shower tray edges with a compatible silicone. Do not use the shower for at least 2 weeks after grouting (BS 5385: Part 4).
