Ca' Pietra Marlborough Square Terracotta Floor Tile 20x20cm. Terracotta tiles with a handmade finish.

Transform your space into a rich russet oasis of yesteryear with these terracotta square floor tiles.

Also available as arabesque tiles and hexagon tiles.

Terracotta floor tiles

Ca' Pietra presents the Marlborough range. With these terracotta tiles, nostalgic red and orange pigments are revisited and redesigned for the modern and hardworking home. Take yourself to terracotta floor tiles heaven with this classic choice, sure to stun as kitchen floor tiles, hallway tiles and living room flooring, while emulating country cottage chic.

Choose your finish

These clay floor tiles arrive unsealed, meaning you can choose the finish you want to fit your home. Partial to antique tiles? Or are natural stone effect tiles more your thing? No problem, just seal and and tailor your finish to suit.

Terracotta floor benefits

There's a big reason why this is one of the oldest architectural materials; durability. Made from natural clay and set in extreme temperatures, these terracotta tiles are incredibly hardwearing, (and so unlikely to chip) while also being low maintenance and easy to clean, once sealed.

Terracotta floor tiles are claimed to be the best flooring for underfloor heating. The porous nature of clay tiles allows heat to travel quickly and efficiently throughout your room and maintains heat long after your underfloor heating has turned off.

Another bonus is the colour; terracotta's earthy tones bring warmth and a 'homely' feel to wherever you lay them. Rich reds and burnt oranges easily complement cream wall tiles, beige wall tiles and many other wall tiles colour palettes, so you can enjoy the 'baked earth' charm for a lifetime.

Please note that while we take every effort to accurately display each tile, variations in screen resolution, lighting and different production batches may affect your viewing. We recommend requesting a FREE tile sample to help you purchase the right tile for your home or business.

    Terracotta Sealing Guide

Sealing is essential before and after laying. Marlborough Terracotta is a pure natural clay tile — highly porous and absorbent. Without sealing, grout will permanently stain the surface. Follow the guide below before you begin.
    The three sealing stages
Follow this sequence for every Marlborough Terracotta installation
    1
Clean and prepare — before sealing
Tiles arrive with natural dust build-up from production and transport. Brush thoroughly with a stiff dry brush, then with a damp brush if needed. Allow tiles to dry completely — the clay softens when wet and is more fragile until dry.
For used or heavily soiled surfaces, use Sarsen Home Deep Clean diluted 1:10. Rinse well and allow 24 hours to dry before sealing.
    2
Seal before laying — and seal the back too
Apply your chosen sealer to the face of the tile immediately before laying — and also to the back. Sealing the back is important: terracotta is so absorbent that an unsealed tile back can draw moisture from the adhesive and weaken the bond. Allow the sealer to absorb overnight before grouting.
Switch off underfloor heating before sealing and leave off for at least 24 hours after.
Buff off any surplus sealer still sitting on the surface after one hour — left to dry, it will harden patchy.
    3
Seal again after grouting — to lock in full protection
Once grouting is fully dry, apply a second round of sealer over the entire surface including the grout joints. This is the stage that provides lasting stain resistance. Apply until the surface no longer soaks up the product immediately.
The surface may look fractionally darker after sealing — this is normal. Always test on a spare tile or inconspicuous area first.

    Choose your finish
    Natural / satin effect
Contemporary and low-odour. Protects against water, oil and grease while letting the tile breathe. Good for kitchens, bathrooms and busy areas. The easier route.
    Products needed
    Antique / oiled effect
Traditional method that deepens tone and builds a warm aged patina. Linseed oil saturates the clay; beeswax protects the surface and gives a gentle sheen. Interior use only.

    Coverage: 7.5–15m² per litre
    Coats: Apply hourly until saturated
    Shelf life: 2 years
    Sarsen Home Stone Shield Sealant

Fully resistant: 3 days after final coat
    Boiled Linseed Oil

    Coverage: 10–30m² per litre
    Between coats: 12 hours minimum
Before waxing: 24 hours after final coat
    Sarsen Beeswax Polish Antique

    Coverage: 1 litre / 10m² (two coats)
Buff wait: 20 minutes after application
Keep dry: 3 days after final coat

    Important notes
    Suitable for
Interior floors — kitchens, hallways, living areas, orangeries
    Interior walls (with appropriate adhesive)
Underfloor heating — commission before tiling; off during sealing
Exterior installations using Stain Block Eco only
    New installations and refurbished surfaces
    Do not
Seal over retained moisture — sealer will dry opaque or not cure
Use Beeswax, Linseed Oil or Stone Shield outdoors
Use Stone Shield below freezing or in direct sunlight
Leave linseed oil cloths dry — fire risk; soak in water before disposal
Apply Beeswax over partially cured or improperly sealed surfaces
Ongoing aftercare: Sweep regularly and clean with Sarsen Home Clean & Sheen — it cleans and reinforces the seal in one application. Refresh Stone Shield or re-wax as the surface shows signs of stain absorption. Every 3–4 years, use Deep Clean for a more intensive clean before re-sealing.

Will my sample be a full-size tile?

We dispatch tiles in compact postal boxes for convenient delivery through your letter box. Tiles exceeding 15x15 will be provided as off-cuts.

For example, If you have requested a small kitchen sample tile such as a Metro 10x20cm or a Rustico 7.5x15cm we will do our best to send you a full-size tile. However, larger tiles such as outdoor tile samples will be an off-cut.

Please note we only send out 1 copy of each tile requested so you will not be able to ask for multiples of a tile. The service is for you to have a better understanding of the quality, texture, and colour of the tile you are requesting and not for you to set up a small wall or floor display.

If you have requested a multi-pattern tile we will send you 2 different prints to illustrate the range of patterns or colours you can expect. Depending on the size of the tile you may receive these 2 parts as off cuts such as the nikea 20x20 (2 half tiles sent) or a wood effect tile (2 different off cuts sent). This will only change to 1 off cut if you ask for multiple samples and the box is overweight.

Everything you need to lay Marlborough Terracotta

In the order you'll use it — from first tile to finished floor.
Sealing is not optional. Terracotta is a pure clay tile with no factory surface protection. Without sealing before laying, grout will permanently stain the tile surface. Full sealing instructions are in the accordion below.
